Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine
Dr. Scott Austin is board certified in equine internal medicine. He received his veterinary degree from Washington State University and completed both a master’s degree in veterinary parasitology and an equine residency at the University of Illinois.

Before joining the Illinois faculty in 2011, Dr. Austin spent 13 years as an associate veterinarian at Wisconsin Equine Clinic and Hospital in Oconomowoc, Wis., and also taught at Waukesha County Technical College and Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.

Through the equine primary care service, he offers annual wellness examinations along with diagnosis and treatment of individual animal disease.

In his spare time, Dr. Austin enjoys photography and hiking in the backcountry. He owns two cats and two golden retrievers. His retrievers are named “Smarty” and “Jones” after the 2004 Kentucky Derby winner, Smarty Jones, because they tied for first delivered (by C-section) in a litter of ten puppies born on derby day.
